This volume gathers over 600 photographs that narrate the history and identity of 340 public bridges and 19 private ones, guiding the reader on a visual journey through the city of water. Each bridge becomes a trace of architecture, life, and recollections, enriched by subtle references that reveal its urban and monumental contexts. The text explores the origins, transformations, and toponyms of the bridges, often linked to their function or to the ancient trades that once animated the surrounding areas: remeri, pistori, tentori, forneri, scorzeri, and other artisans who left their mark on the city. Through dialectal references and architectural nuances – storto, rosso, longo, piccolo – the book captures the soul of a Venice suspended between history and the hustle and bustle of daily life.
