Piero Falchetta
The large circular planisphere, admirably exhibited at the Correr Museum in Venice, depicts the world according to the geographical knowledge that existed before the discovery of America. It is inscribed in a circumference of almost 2m in diameter, which is in turn inserted in a square frame bearing various diagrams and inscriptions. The cartographic drawing, made up of sheets of parchment glued onto a wooden support, is accompanied by almost 3,000 inscriptions, which include not only toponyms, but also historical and geographical notes which are important for the interpretation of the work.
